Driving the White Rim Road of Canyonlands National Park: Here is a full Fuji Superia 100 film roll shot during a matchless trip in 2003
The White Rim Sandstone is a sandstone geologic formation located in southeastern Utah. It is named after its color which is not really white but distinctly lighter than the sandstone formations below and above it.

The White Rim Road is a 71.2-mile-long unpadved four-wheel drive road that traverses the White Rim Sandstone formation between the base of the Island in the Sky mesa and the Colorado and Green Rivers within Canyonlands National Park.

The road surface consists of loose dirt, sandy dry washes and sandstone rock formations. Driving the White Rim Road is a real challenge. Typical excursions take two days by four-wheel drive vehicle and are only allowed by permit from the National Park Service (NPS).

Since July 2014, a high-clearance, four-wheel drive vehicle with a low gear range is required by park regulation – automatic all-wheel drive and low-clearance vehicles are not permitted anymore. Altough there are a few wilderness camps there is no potable water available anywhere along the adventurous road.
